how much have i to download?
i'm currently using ubuntu, but i'm going to reinstall the system and i want to try debian as my next distro, but when i want to download it from internet i always see many cds on ftp servers and i don't know which should i download...
so my question is how many cds have i really to download? i hope i don't have to download all of them... i just want make a basic installation with GUI (gnome / kde). all the other apps a can install manually...

When I install Debian, I always start with the businesscard.iso, as suggested above by towy71.
Doing that and then installing your other files online gives you the more of the latest files without you having to upgrade files that were on the iso.oz

but one more question... when i decide to download a full cd(s), have i really to download all of them???

Download first 2 CDs only. first CD has GNOME and Second has KDE. you can download any package with apt-get/aptitude after installation.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
