FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (installation error)
Hi,
I recently tried to install the nvidia drivers for my GeForce4 Ti 4200. I am running Etch with kernel 2.6.18-4-686. I installed nvidia-glx, nvidia-kernel-2.6.18-4-486, nvidia-kernel-2.6.18-4-686, nvidia-kernel-2.6-686, nvidia-kernel-common, nvidia-kernel-soruce, and nvidia-xconfig.
Afterwards I run nvidia-xconfig and verify that xorg.conf has the nvidia driver loaded along with my monitor settings. Then I made sure the nvidia module appeared in /etc/modules and it does as "nvidia" (no quotes obviously.)
However, when I modprobe nvidia I get, FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6.18-4-686/nvidia/nvidia.ko): No such device. What have I done wrong? I have nvidia0 nvidia1 nvidia2 nvidia2 and nvidiactl in /dev, but I have only one graphics card...help please.
Thanks,
Stitch

dude
I have a Nvidia GeForce 6800, i compile my own kernel, dont use framebuffer support because it will conflict with the nvidia drivers , and download nvidia drivers for nvidias site...it should work....thats how i do it with my card and it works like a charm.
