    Updating from the cd

I am really new to Debian so I need to know how to update from a cd. I am not internet connected as I have found it impossible to get Debian going with Dialup. I have tried for months with no success. I have been able to with Ubuntu with much pain but I guess being in a country that is behind the times makes Linux hard to use here in Sydney. I hope to move to a broadband deal soon but I am being extra cautious as most deals are like snake oil in this country and I am on a pension. So please do not suggest for me to use the net. I have gone through hell posting on several forums and reading all the "how to" things in sight. I got a newer version of Debian on cd from a friend that is knowledgeable with Linux but he doesn't live close so he can't help me out. We are also hoping that the newer version will correct a few things and install what I need before I move to broadband as the deal I choose will not have many megabytes for me to play with. Damn backward country! Also speeds of broadband in Australia are half of what they are elsewhere. Thanks Carla

Do you want to update from the cd or just install stuff from it? Either way, put in your cd and run as root
    Code:
    apt-cdrom add
This will allow the cdrom to be the source of what you install.

    Update

Update definately! Thanks I hope that will work as there seems to be a problem with mounting the cd drive and dvd burner.

well assuming that the above works, to update run
    Code:
    apt-get update
    apt-get dist-upgrade
    and that *should* work

there is a program knownas AptOnCD, and in my opinion you can make an offline update with it.
