    Unhappy KDE randomly freezes

I'm not sure what's causing the problem, but the GUI often completely freezes; I can't even move the cursor.

Sometimes I'm able to use Ctrl-Alt-F1 to bring up a shell and kill whatever process I was using last, but other times I'm forced to do a hard reboot.

If anyone knows how I could fix this problem, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Hi and Welcome !

It looks like X Server problem. Which Graphics Card do you have? Did you set/install correct Video Driver?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

According to lspci, the video card is a ATI Inc Rage 128 Pro Ultra.

I'm pretty sure I have the driver installed for it; is there any way I can check?

Check the contents of /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. Which driver its using in Device Video Card section?

I couldn't find xorg.conf, but there was XF86Config-4, which looks to serve the same purpose. It says I'm using the r128 driver.
