Just bought the parts to build a new machine. I am not sure though what disk formatting debian uses.
Since this is a new machine I need a CD bootable disk formatting tool.
If anyone could help me I would be much obliged.

You can just boot the Debian install disk and format from there.
I keep getting the following error for both Mandrake and Debian.Quote:

I have bought a bunch of new equipment...
ABIT NF7-S2G motherboard with and on board SATA controller, a Maxtor 250 Gig Hard drive (SATA), 512 MB of RAM.
I thinks its getting hosed on the SATA controller/DASD.

Do you know what type of chipset the sata controller is?
I have an asus p4p800-e

This worked fine using the debian installer.
You might want to try booting a knoppix cd (the hardware detection might be better - although the sarge installer is pretty good) and see if it can see your hard drive.
I remember hearing there were some sata issues with the very latest controllers this summer, but I don't recall whether they've been resolved yet.
Good luck.
