i386 to amd64

Can the Skype package be changed form i386 to amd64?

Skype isnt OpenSource, so when skype launch 64bit version it will be available.
or If anyone could get source code can compile it on 64bit compiler.
but its closed source.

EDIT:
What ever 32bit version works on 64 bit machine.
and 64bit skype wont make any difference in speed/quality or performance.
