I don't know why Linux won't boot up without the boot disk, but when you boot it up type "startx."

What error messges do you get when you try to boot Slack without the boot disk? Does it fail to load up or does it take you to a command prompt? Do you have KDE/Gnome/IceWM installed? We'll need more information before we can begin to help you out!

Got it!
Okay, I figured out how to load the desktop by using startx. What happens when i turn on my computer without a boot disk is nothing. It just sits there doing nothing. I dont think i have Gnome or anything else. It asked me if i wanted to load LILO during installation but i declined. Was that it? If not how do i install Gnome? Anyways thanks a lot for the imput.

Re: Got it!
Yeah, that was most likely it. Without a boot loader, it's hard to boot. ;-)
