is it possible to install and run a really really small window manager on a unix shell account?
Microsoft isn't evil, they just make really crappy operating systems.

There are a lot of really small Window Managers. Fluxbox, Openbox or fvwm. Check here.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

If you are talking about a shell account from your ISP, I don't think those are available anymore.
I do not respond to private messages asking for Linux help, Please keep it on the forums only.

You could check out screen. It's a full-screen window manager that might work for you.
There are a couple of articles about it in our Articles section of this website. One is toward the top of the list and another can be found at the bottom.
I don't know if they'd let you install it on their servers, but it might be already installed and ready for your use.oz
