I don't think you'll have much luck running Compiz with the vesa driver. You need a driver specifically for your video card. As far as I know, if you are using vmware, you are going to be limited to using the vesa driver which means you probably won't be able to run compiz. This is something to do with lack of graphics acceleration in vmware (don't know the exact details because I have not used vmware for a long time). Originally Posted by georanson
