Data Recovery for Windows System on a Linux System
Sorry to bother you all but I have a bit of a problem.
I have a Hard Drive (with a windows install on it but it no longer boots it says unmountable boot volume) that will blue screen any other windows machine and I'm trying to avoid sending it off to a drive savers company. I was thinking if anyone could suggest an Linux program that can recover windows files. I've tried a Knoppix boot CD, it can see the Hard Drive but can’t copy the files.
If anyone can suggenst anything it would be welcome.
Thanks for your time

Welcome to the forums!
I don't know that they will do what you want, but TestDisk and PhotoRec are good recovery tools that can be used for recovering partitions and files. You can find them both on the Parted Magic LiveCD, and more information about each of them here.
Best of luck with your recovery efforts.oz
