How to retrive a password

Hi,

I'm kind of new with the whole Linux thing, my dad got me into this and has been teaching me alot....installed the linux operating system with me over the phone. My problem is I lost my father right before Thanksgiving and I have his computer. He didn't write down his password and I don't want to wipe it clean. I loved my father very much and don't want to lose anything connected to him. He was also a survivalist and I know he was a wealth of information on that subject. If anyone can help retrieve his password I would greatly appreciate it.
