Hi and Welcome !
These are device name assigned to Hard disks. In older kernels SATA disks used to assigned sdx and ATA as hdx but in newer versions, all disks are assigned as sdx only.
Depending on connector/cable select or Jumper settings, sda - first Hard disk, sdb - second Hard disk and so on.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
