Setting a file assocation in gnome
How do I set file association in Gnome ( version 2 and 3 ), so that if I open a file a particular application is executed with that file passed to the application ?
I tried to find this information on the Gnome site, but could find nothing there.

I believe changing file associations is Linux distro specific, and not Gnome specific, but this is how you do it in older versions of Ubuntu. How to change default programs on Ubuntu | libre-software.net
