X11 - same Modelines work differently

    Hi!

I have a very difficult question regarding X11:

It seems that I'm using a not well known Samsung 21" Monitor (1600x1200) so it is not recognized correctly.

Without modifications the max. resolution is 1024x768

So I wrote a modeline for the xorg.conf

    Code:
    ModeLine "1600x1200" 165.00 1600 1712 1880 2160 1200 1203 1207 1245 -hsync +vsync
It works fine with Ubuntu 10.04/12.04 and the propr. nvidia-driver 3.10

Now I tried Manjaro. Same issue with the monitor. I created a description file with the mentioned modeline.

This resolution is used after logging in again, but with manjaro (no modifications - nuveau driver) the screen-image is shifted so much, that I can't see the left 100(?) pixels.
Using the Monitor "Auto" function can't center the picture correctly (stays as it was before pressing "auto")

So why is this modeline working so differently in Ubuntu/Manjaro?

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks - Flo

Are you using the same XServer with both, or are they different programs from Ubuntu to Manjaro?

Also, since you are using nouveau (nVidia driver), it may be an issue with the versions of the kernel+driver you are using. Any time people want to use an nVidia video card/chip-set I recommend using the proprietary nVidia drivers - they seem to deal with this stuff much better.

I just looked up the versioncode for X11

    Manjaro
    X.Org X Server 1.14.6
    Release Date: 2014-04-13
    X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0

    Ubuntu
    X.Org X Server 1.7.6
    Release Date: 2010-03-17
    X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
A N D I spent an hour searching. I found another modeline for 1600x1200 where the sync-polarity is different.

both syncs are positive. This means, that ubuntu works fine with the modeline and -h +v, manjaro with +h and +v.

I don't understand why, but the main thing is - it's working
