X server start problems

Hey,

I just installed the X11 x server on a old 450 MHz machine running on Fedora 3. But unfortunately I have a problem starting the x server. When starting the xserver (startx) the screen goes black and remains black. When I check the log, it gives the following error:

Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/, removing from list!

could not open default font 'fixed'

Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional information.

I already installed all fonts included on the Fedora 3 CD as well as all the x server components. After a search on this forum, other forums and on search engines I still don't know how to solve this problem.

My system:
AMD K6-2 450 MHz, 64 MB RAM, Savage 3D graphics card, 9,5 GB HD
O/S:
Fedora 3 Kernel 2.6.9-1.667
X-server version 6.8.1-12
KDE 3.2

You might have better luck going with a lighter WM such as fluxbox or IceWM.
Even if you can get it running Kde, you won't be happy.
Kde is a resource hog.
Have you run
