    Since I installed DB woody with 2.4.18 kernel.

    It dun support geforce 4
    SO that means i have to upgrade both the kernel and Xfree right?

    Nah, just fetch the drivers from http://www.nvidia.com/. Indeed, they are non-free, but they are nonetheless the only way of getting good support for your nVidia card.
