    is x window needed?


    I plan on installing Fedora core 4 x86_64, can i leave x window out and only install gnome, or os it needed for something? or does what i just said make no sense (im a noob )

    The X server is needed since that is what powers all things graphical on your system. without X you can't install gnome, or anything graphical to tell the truth.

    Gnome and KDE run on top of X, X runs on top of Linux itself, so you can't cut X out it's kind of an intermediary.
