Does anyone know if it's possible to have an X server (XFree86) being active even when its VT isn't active?...

Maybe you could hack the startx script to start one up on X: 0 and X: 1, ect.

If I answered this one...? Did you mean if I got an answer? If so, no.

Now that's not really what I was looking for. If I just start two X servers, only the one whose vt is active will be using its card. The thing is that I've got two vid cards, and I want them to be controlled by two different X servers (not using screen numbers). I would just set null input devs on the "passive" one, but I want it to be active even though the "active" one's vt is active. Like that I can just use the "passive" one to display status info and so.

this sounds like a source diving project. Or ask XFree developers, they might know more.

I was thinking of doing that, but every time you want to join a mailing list, there's so much work to do. It takes surely a minute, at least.
