Eh... Can you explain a bit more? I don't understand the problem. You don't want to start X at boot? You want to login to another windowmanager?

isn't X window have a compeletely different GUI than Fedora core 4? (the one that u go straight into when installed the 4 disks of FC4). but when i start X window, even from xinit -- :1, computer just logs into the exact identical GUI as the original FC4 (the one that you go straight into when installed),
i can start kde no problem though, and it have a different GUI,
is the X window supposed to be like this, exact identical to Fc4?

So you want to login to kde by default?
Currently, Gnome is the default?
When you are at the login screen, look for the Sessions button, select kde.
Make sure that you tell it to make this a permanent change.
Now you should login to kde by default. How to know if you are a geek.
when you respond to "get a life!" with "what's the URL?"
