Switching tremnal problems
Everytime I switch back to my default termnal using the Ctrl, Alt, function key combo while running X I just get the termnal instead of the GUI. What should I do?

Uhm........I really don't know if I catch your question Ok, but....
By default the tty (configured in /etc/inittab) are made to use the Ctrl + Alt + Key Function (F1 to F6 normally)
Of course, if you use any of this key combos you will promt to a text-mode interface 'cause that is what suppose to do
Now, assuming that your question will be "How I return to my X" the answer will be pressing Ctrl + Alt + F7

Can you clarify your question please? What do you mean by 'your default terminal'?
