FreeFontPath: FPE: refcount error.
I had upgraded XFree86-4.5.0 (March 2005) to freshly compiled X-Org X11R6.9 without any change of parameter (make World, make install).
My OS is mandrake 10.0 (official) with kernel 2.6.16.7 and Via Unichrome video chipset.
All is OK, except one warning message about fontpath.
This message appear when I close X windows and back to console
(content of /var/log/xorg.0.log):
(**) FontPath set to "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/"

FreeFontPath: FPE "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/" refcount is 2, should be 1; fixing.
The only work around: delete a line inside:
..../xc/dix/dixfonts.c
http://webcvs.freedesktop.org/xserve...notate=3.6.2.6
How to solve this problem?
Thank you.

I also get this error and I'm using Xorg 7.0.0, it's not fatal and any information I've tried to find on it usually always results in people saying not to be concerned with it.
Since it's not causing any problems it's best not to worry about it.

Same here... I've been getting it ever since upgrading to xorg 7.0 a couple of months ago but I've not found any fix. Like Krednoshazin, I just ignore it.
