This may be a noob question but what are the competitors of XFREE86
im talking about open source? are they better? Cause in my opinion X is slow as hell. Put windows on the same hardware and browsing and opening apps and the explorer is quick to happen. I am not saying that stability is better in M$.

There is an alternative called 'Y', but I'm not sure where to find it or if it's even stable/realeased.
Other than that, you can run XDirectFB, which is a variant of X and still very new and unstable.
X should not be slower than Windows on the same hardware. Have you checked to make sure that you have everything configured properly as far as your video card goes? If you're not running the correct drivers, that could provide some problems."Time is an illusion. Lunchtime, doubly so."
