Unhappy Nvidia drivers wont work under 1024x768 Resolution

I had this problem with Ubuntu 64bits 6.06 and Fedora Core 5 x86_64.

In both cases I installed correctly Nvidia drivers and launched the Distro with nvidia as default desktop viewer, but I could only use it with 800x600 resolution anf If I change it to 1024x768 I'll get a black screen.

For now I can only see the screen in 1024x768 using "vesa" driver. But ofcourse it's quite slow and wont work well with video software.

Thanks to MEPIS I managed to discover the "vesa" settings.

    My MEPIS settings:

Both of the last 2 files you posted only had "800x600" and "640x480" lines on the Display section. Add "1024x768" in front of them all and try again.

    It should look like this:
    Code:
    SubSection "Display"
    		Depth 24
    		Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
    	EndSubSection

64 bits distro are always a bit trickier. How did you install the drivers? Using Ubuntu packages? Or with the NVIDIA installer?

As I said before, if I use "nvidia" driver to view in 1024x768 I'll get a black screen. I can easily use 1024x768 with vesa but this is not the point. What I need is a solution to fix "nvidia" display problem so I can finally get nvidia driver to work under 1024x768 resolution.

Using guides in Ubuntu forums, same with Fedora.
If I can remeber in both cases I used command line, but never downloaded any package directly from Nvidia.

Maybe you could give the NVIDIA driver for AMD64 a try :
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d..._1.0-8762.html

And use techieMoe instructions to install it :
