    GNOME Settings Daemon has an error

    Every time I try to log in to the GNOME desktop environment, a windows tells me that "There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon".

    Further in the window, it tells me that the last error message was: "Failed to activate 'OAFIID:GNOME_SettingsDaemon'. Another similar window appears before this, however it is replaced by this one before I can read it. GNOME appears to work fine otherwise.

    How do I fix it?
