Please bear with me, I'm a newbie.

I have a Dell Latitude D600, just installed Fedora Core 6. Everything (but the mouse) is working well (even beryl, which is really cool).

The problem is that whenever I press a key or touch the DualPoint Stick (the little eraser mouse thingy in the middle of the keyboard) it causes the mouse pointer to go crazy for about 10 seconds.

The laptop has the Synaptics ALPS touchpad with DualPoint stick. I've tried many, many different xorg.conf configurations, but can't seem to disable the eraser stick without disabling the keyboard.

The following section in xorg.conf works the best, except for the annoyance described above:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"

I've tried disabling the stick by adding the following section and updating the ServerLayout section appropriately:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "stick"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/event1"
Option "SendCoreEvents" "false"

(Please see output from "cat /proc/bus/inputs/devices" at the end of the message. )

When I do this, the stick gets disabled as intended, but the keyboard and mouse become unresponsive.

I noticed that "cat /dev/input/event1" responds to both the keyboard and the eraser stick. "cat /dev/input/event0" responds exclusively to the keyboard. And "cat /dev/input/event2" responds exclusively to the touchpad. If I could tell the system to use event0 for the keyboard and event2 for the mouse and ignore event1 completely, I think that would do the trick. Any ideas how to do this? If this isn't possible in xorg.conf, is there any easy way to disable event1 even before X-windows starts up? Maybe prevent Linux from loading that device?

Thanks for your help.

Heres output from "cat /proc/bus/input/devices"
