How to change the background colour of evince ?

When I use evince I get a white background which I find rather tiring. Is there a way to change the colour of the background ? If there isn't a way can you recommend some other document viewer(s) for PDF , Postscript , DVI etc. which offer this capability or at least a gray background as a default ?
