Xgl Wtf?
I have XGL/Compiz installed that I sometimes use, sometimes this happens to me and sometimes it doesn't but I've restarted several times, restarted X and it still happens. XGL just looks really wierd and everything is... just... I can't describe it, here: www.13cliff.co.uk/help.png
It starts when XGL loads, the screen is split into 2 triangles, top left and bottom right, they flicker, then the loading screen comes on and looks like that, displaced. I'm using the fglrx driver for my ATI Radeon 9800XT pro, this was worked fine before... I don't see what has changed...

I've sort of got a clue now. openGL isn't working at all. I try open arena and it says:Calling SDL_Init(SDL_INIT_VIDEO)...
SDL_Init(SDL_INIT_VIDEO) passed.
Initializing OpenGL display
...setting mode 3: 640 480
SDL_SetVideoMode failed: Couldn't find matching GLX visual

Any ideas? I can live without compiz but I need openGL to work.

Since this is gathering dust, might as well post the conclusion. It was because 3D acceleration wasn't enabled, I removed the fglrx driver completely, reinstalled it and it worked
Just incase anybody sees this topic with the same problem.

First of all, WOO! RED DWARF ROCKS. hehe.
OK yeah well it's good you found out the problem yourself, sometimes that is the best thing. If you gather any other problems, you can PM me, of course, I don't know EVERYTHING, but yeah. consider me as a personal helper
.. i think.
I have actually heard that ATI tends to have problems running certain graphics on linux, but I may be wrong. I don't have a high-tech g-card, just a measly Intel Extreme (not very extreme then is it)Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity.

hey, i think im having a kind of similar problem, dont know how to solve exactly though. when i go to log on into xgl i type in my password, hit enter, and then the screen goes black for a second, after that i try again, this time it goes black and then the screen looks like a film movie being showed when its slower than it should be if that makes any sense at all... then i re boot and its all good again but does the exact same thing every time i try to log on to xgl.
3d rendering issue or just my stupidity...?? please help me
ps: ive already tryed reinstalling the fglrx driver = nothing
and i got the same massive amount of code when i typed in that code
