X desktop not running.....i didnt do anything!!!

I have red hat linux 9.
i had kde running up, then i tried to open the terminal, it didnt open...it said "failed to start konsole". then i rebooted my PC...then the graphical interface did not start. only the shell was being shown....i tried startx...but in vain..it said "couldnt start X services"
i ran:
cp /etc/X11/XF86Config.backup /etc/X11/XF86Config
to correct the configuration error.
still, no luck
plz do help me as i cant start my X desktop and i need it

You didn't run out of disk space did you?

could u please post the exact error message on startx command. i once had a similar problem, but then i had managed to delete most of the required Xlibs.
