I'm on gentoo, emerged gdesklets-core and the desklets in x11-plugins, but I can't seem to get the daemon running for anything.
I had to switch off root, since it says root can't run it :?
But no matter what I do, it just says:
Does anyone know how to resolve this?Code:Starting gdesklets-daemon...
Connecting to daemon [ ### ]Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by serverXlib: No protocol specified
perhaps there are some arguments that you are missing (protocol?)

1. I think the problem is that I su'd to a user from root, and it can't connect from user to X run as root. :(
2. I tried it by booting in as user, and discovered it wants gtkhtml, which I thought I installed, but according to portage I didn't. I'm going to try that, but I want it under root access! :(
Ok, they work now under non-root, but like I said, I want it under root...
I don't have my machine online 24/7, only when I'm actively using it, and rarely for long periods of time so I seldom worry about getting hacked.
Added to that is that "su" doesn't work for some reason when switching from normal user to root- something I really need to investigate.
The real problem is switching the icons in the panel. I use quite a few custom icons for my launchers, and I can't figure out how to copy them to the normal user account, and I REALLY don't want to do it manually, as it would be a major pain.
