I want to change my screen resolution. 800x600 just isn't very pleasing. How do I do this? Thanks.

ctrl alt - or + will cycle through the screen resolutions you have listed in your /etc/XF86Config file.
I have my resolutions listed as 1600x1200 and thats the only one that I have listed in the config file, yet my desktop is still 1024x768 and its quite annoying. How can I fix this?
Are you checking agianst the listing for your colour depth?
Maybe 1024x768 is all your hardware can do?
I have an ATI 8500LE 128 MB version in the computer, without the ATI drivers installed. At 32 bit color, I thought for sure it could do more then just 1024x768.
this is what the relevent section in my x86config file shows:
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Card0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1600x1200"
EndSubSection
EndSection
change yours to match.. also consider installing the accelerated drivers which might provide better screen resolutions.
Does slackware run off XF86Config-4 or XF86Config?

i am downright fed up of it . it will only do 640x480 max, its an older notebook, sharp pc 8700 to be exact, and because of the screen size it will only do 640x480
What would be a good, but cheap video card for Linux? On my WIndows box, I have a Geforce 2 MX w/ TV-OUT and the graphics are pretty good for what I use it for. You can pick one up for around $40 on eBay. I was wondering if I would have problems with using that on RH 9.1?
I had this same problem and the way i fixed it was I listed ALL the horizontal and vertical refresh rates my monitor could handle in the /etc/X11/XF86Config file, try this out and it should work
