Mandrake login

I successfully installed Mandrake 9.1 on a compaq laptop. However, I can't use it because a login window pops up asking for a username and password. During installation, I chose not to put an adminstrator password. I don't understand this. The login button does not become active unless I put a username in. I tried administrator without a password. It does not work. Can someone explain this? Thanks.

Did you try the username root? if not try it....

It wasn't the best idea not to have a root password, since it makes your security weak.
