hi guys, ive got a problem that i simply can't solve...
the thing is that i cant get my resolution to higher levels than 640 x 480 in Gentoo. in windows (i dualboot) i can get all the way up to 1280 x 1024.
the XF86Config look completely perfect as far as i know...
the ctrl-alt-plus command does not work either.
well, post your XF86Config and someone might be able to help you =)
are you using Nvidia, ATI ???

The comment inserted by xf86config clearly indicates that there is something wrong. Unsupported card probably means that xf86config couldn't properly configure the card, that is, all it could do was decide that it was an nvidia card, and therefore assign it the "nvidia" driver.
You may want to try to change this to "nv" instead of nvidia, which means that the Xserver will try to use its on built-in driver for nvidia cards, instead of the one supplied by nvidia.
Other then this, I don't know what else I can tell you.
There may (or may not) be issues with your videocard and the nvidia driver, you could always try to search for your card + linux and see if anyone else has experienced similar problems.

well actually, when i installed the nvidia driver, it strictly said that it has to say nvidia, NOT nv, i dont know why but....
else of that, well, i may try running the XF86'something' script that guides you through the configuration, but i dont think ill be able to do that in about 2 days...
untill then i really would like to see any ideas you folks might have.

actually i think that "unsupported card" part is another one of those "if your computer has ****** then uncomment this" lines...
also ive tried changing the sequence of the resolutions, with no effect (or actually it didnt allow me to start X after i did that ... i wont do that again)

actually, looking at the device section, i noticed that you still have the generic vga device uncommented.. also, double check your monitor's hsync and vrefresh rates... also, uncomment that DRI part at the bottom of the XF86Config...
what i'm thinking the problem is is this:
X is using the *first* device it finds in that section, which is the generic vga... comment||delete that part and then try it.
