Some questions about x11

Well, I am really new to Graphical Linux.
And well till this point on it looks like crap.
The cursor is Ugly the Menu has a to small font.
And Conky does half work...

But no fear, I am going to fix this all.
Well I run debian with xfce(since I dont like gnome or kde).
So well I still have the default x11 Cursor. and I think its just to hiddious.
I downloaded one, unpacked it to /usr/share/cursors/xorg-x11 I did go to my xfce menu to cursor. Selected my one. And.. nothing happend. I did restart x once I even tryed to reboot the entire system. Bad luck.
So, how can I set my cursor to the right one?
About the xfce font that is way to small. I cant find how to fix that.. :/ So does anyone have a idea? And conky works half since I dont have the newest version.
So I wonder, can somebody post his/her sources.list here so I have a good mirror list?
Now only the dvds are in there.

Hi Robin !

First of all, fix X Server and select correct Refresh rates and resolution. It will sort out most of problems.

Check your Monitor's Manual for supported HorizSync, VertiRefresh rates and Resolutions. Open Terminal and execute this

Accept default options and enter correct HorizSync/VertiRefresh rates when prompted. Select supported resolutions from the list. Reboot machine.

sorry that didnt fix my problem..
First it killed x11.. and now well It synced abit but not really any improvements with the Mouse, Conky or my fonts..

Thats pretty weird. If you have entered supported Refresh rates and resolutions then X Server should have worked fine.
Which Graphics Card do you have and which Video Driver are you using?

Heh, it works fine now ;)
I did do something from w/ Framebuffer support.
But still. It only syncs abit. Its not real improvement.
What I mean by that is the Resolution is fine, the Hz are fine.
But I still dislike my cursor etc ;)

You havn't posted the output of above commands. There are a lot of hack packages available for Graphics cards and those packages improve X Server performance significantly.

I think I am not clear.
X11 looks good.
I love xfce. Though I still need a nice skin for it.
Everything is synced nice. No compains there. But How do I change my cursor for example..? I cant find that out..
