startx works but with errors. 'bad display name "linux:0" in "list" command
I have just installed X and when I type startx it takes me to a simple twm screen just as I intended. However, despite starting X and twm properly errors are reported at the bash prompt.
It reports this error for two other commands, including the "remove" command when it shuts down X.
xauth:(argv):1:bad display name "linux:0" in "list" command
I've googled around about this and it seems to be related to the /etc/hosts file
I've tried to edit this a few different ways, including uncommenting the ::1 line, and changing the "127.0.0.1 linux" to "127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain linux.localdomain", but with no success.
# Begin /etc/hosts
# ::1 localhost localhost.localdomain linux.localdomain
# End /etc/hosts
I've also tried
(found on a BSD forum) but this had the same result.
DISPLAY=localhost:0.0; export DISPLAY
Can anyone point me in the right direction?? Many thanks!
