Newbie to Linux - just installed Fedora Core 1 with (I think) Gnome desktop. Immediately I noticed that stuff just looks better than on my Windows XP desktop (it's the identical machine only with Linux on a separate HDD). Why is that? Is it the choice of font size/type or is there something inherently nicer about the graphics?
I also notice that it's not as fast for common tasks as Windows: reading contents of a CD, etc. Any way to speed it up?
