need help bsd n00b, what version?

right i have been using linux for a while now and tried many distros. but now i feel i need to try bsd but what one? i mainly use the pc for instant messaging
web browsing, watching dvd's and i would like it to be fast

Perhaps if you are new to BSD you might want to try DesktopBSD or PCBSD. Both of those are based on FreeBSD.

Yeah i would not suggest that you install something like free/open/net BSD as these are mainly intended for use with server side hosting.
