    installing freebsd 5

    freebsd5 is like, 5 years old, shouldn't you use the latest release? 8.0? It will probably cause less problems

    I recently installed the newest NetBSD 5.0.2 on a i386 PC. It did stop after start-up initialising the hardware about 9 times out of ten.
    Booting with "no acpi enabled" it worked all the time.

    The older the install is you will probably see even more of such issues.
