When I installed some Linux to my new notebook that had Wind. 7, the only way I could manage that was by installing grub4dos.
That creates a menu entry of Wind., that gives me the option between "Linux" and "Wind.", when I choose "Linux" then the grub loader gives me all the Linux and probably variants, so, when not running Wind., I always have 2 OS choices to choose from... But when you set both so that the most used OS is always the default (in my case: 1st. choice: Linux, and in the grub menu: Most used Linux variant, then it is quite quick cause you only need to press [enter] twice.

I am quite sure that grub4dos is also able to boot BSD, not only Linux...
    Cheers!
