    hi i downloaded the freebsd 5.3 for my amd64 futjitsu siemens laptop--- when i boot from it i get to the bootloader from which i chose the default boot, but all it does is restart the computer...

    Did you download the right CD? There is a port specifically for amd64 platforms.
