    monitor size bsd 5.4 gnome desktop


    new 5.4 uses Xorg...gnome size preferances give me one choice 640...
    i want 1040x768

    how do i get there?????

    You have to edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf's Screen section:

    Code:
    Section "Screen"
        Identifier  "Screen 1"
        Device      "* Generic VESA compatible"
        Monitor     "My Monitor"
        DefaultDepth 16
    
    ...
        
        Subsection "Display"
            Depth       16
            Modes       "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
            ViewPort    0 0
        EndSubsection
    EndSection
    In the DefaultDepth subsection, add on Modes the resolutions you want. The first one gets priority.

    If that doesnt work, try uncommenting the vertical and horizontal sync lines, that worked for me.
