"Error while initializing the sound driver"
When I start KDE, I get the error "Error while initializing sound driver device /dev/dsp can't be opened", Then I can't get any sound output. What do I do to fix this?

Which BSD version are you running? Did you remember to compile your sounddriver in the kernel or load the kernel module/make it autoload?

There are two methods: recompiling your kernel OR making the module autoload.

That handbook will take care of simple problems like above sound issue every time. I have yet to see it let me down. The fine folks of ##freebsd would rightfully expect you had tried said handbook prior to asking them for any assistance. FreeBSD won my heart instantly with the combination of these two solid resources. WHERE'S THE DANCING BANANA!??
