I was asked today by a pair of young twins what I am going to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. I told them that I am thankful to be alive and quite thankful that I am able to still function independently. There are a lot of other things that I am very thankful for that I did not mention to them.

At any rate they made my day! I have been smiling all day long ( which in New York City makes me look like a lunatic )!!

Happy Thanksgiving LF members and may your lives be very blessed!!

I've always regarded these terms as synonymous but recently I've seen some posts, here and elsewhere, which treat them as different, even conflicting. Of course I know that there are proprietary programs like the Adobe Acrobat Reader which are available free of charge to users without being free in any other sense, but is there software which is truly free but not open source? Or the contrary?

It seems there's a bit of a storm going on over at the Red Hat/Fedora mailing lists:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=534047

It seems that by default in Fedora 12 any user can now install packages from repositories. The only time authentication is requested is if the packages aren't signed. Personally on my systems the /home and /tmp partitions are mounted noexec and only users I want installing things get privilege to do so. It seems this can be relatively easily reversed and I do think it's nice that policykit allows this type of permission to be granted, but I'm not so sure about by default allowing it.

What do you guys think?

Hi everyone, I was just wondering what other Forums you all might be a part of. I myself am part of several other forums on a regular basis.
Texas Fishing forum Texas Fishing Forum - Forums powered by UBB.threads™
United Parcel Service forum (not affiliated) Brown Cafe - UPS info for UPSers
Dallas Basketball Dallas Basketball - Dallas Mavericks Basketball News and Links
Of course I have the Gentoo forums, and several others that I am subscribed to but hardly ever post there.
I have noticed some very cool features on the Browncafe website. (Live Threads) They have some software that adds new posts to the thread you are currently reading so that you won't miss those posts added while you were typing your reply.

Linux obviously for the operating system. But then what? I know I like abiword. Firefox is beastly. But the other things seems a lot more muddled about what's good, and what's difficult. BTW. I am not tech savvy, just a person who believes in freedom.

In ~/bash.profile, i'm sourcing a file that sets the variable $fb to the folder of my file backups.

With a shell script, i'd always rm -rf $fb/*, before having the script cp -r the new files to $fb.

Today, just shortly after switching to zsh, and forgetting to set up my aliases and variables, i've run the backup script.

So it tries to rm -rf $fb/*, but $fb has no value...

Fukc my life.

It was a small Arch system on sdx2 of my flash stick.
Actually i'm damn happy i've ^C'ed before it began with /mnt/, as absolutely ALL of my storage devices were mounted. Doing an ls on the partition, i see the first directory being /dev/; and /mnt/ comes right after that...

Doing a fresh start won't bee too bad actually. I'm a noob and had started using Arch partially to learn more. It had some minor problems i never got. (Although i'm in love with Arch now. Will probably use no other until the day i make my own distro. =P)

Have a good day everyone, and look out for valueless variables!
