Hi Everyone:

I have been using linux for quite some time now. Recently I have shifted from GNOME desktop environment to KDE. I have a query related to this KDE environment.

Actually, in GNOME when we open a number of windows on one desktop and then shift to another, then those windows or programs do not show at the bottom task bar. If we have to use one of those opened programs we have to go back to their respective desktops.

However, in KDE all the windows, opened in different desktops, keeps on showing in the task bar of the current desktop. Is there any way through which I can change this behavior? As I want the windows to appear on their respective desktops only.:confused:

Regards,

Hello,

I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 with a French keyboard, and Xvfb 7.3 for a special "detached" application running gnome-terminal with whom I communicate using my French keyboard.

From what we see, Xvfb is using a keyboard mapping which is fixed at server startup time (a specific english keyboard called the LK201), and I need to change this to get my French keycodes in.
But it looks like Xvfb 7.3 does NOT support the XKB extension because a setxkbmap command typed onto that virtual gnome-terminal always produces the error: "XKB extension not present on (e.g.) :2"

Suggestions ?

Thanks,

Hi everyone,

I foolishly upgraded some dbus packages yesterday. Now when I log into a gnome session, it will not load the gnome configuration manager.

From what I understand, RPM no longer supports the rollbacks. Is there another way I can undo this? The problem with erasing the RPM and installing a previous version is that I do not know what the previous version was. I tried scanning some of the YaST2 logs, but nothing looked right. I reinstalled the previous versions of the packages listed below (they were the ones updated yesterday). That did not help. Does RPM keep a log of what was installed on your system?

The problem with "rpm -qa --last" is that it is only the current packages installed, and I want a historical log. I can set up a cron job to do this, but I was hoping RPM or another utility would have already been developed.

Your comments, thoughts, and ideas are welcome and appreciated!

Kind regards,
WT

Ok i have dedicated lots of time googling, looking in icewm manual, howto, and 2 posts by Dapper Dan.
I have tried various combinations of in the /h ome/user/.icewm/preference line 1236
I checked .xinitrc and there is:

#Start IceWM
icewmbg &
icewmtray &
exec icewm-session

This is my .icewm/preferences:
DesktopBackgroundColor="rgb:231/211/128"

DesktopTransparencyColor="rgb:231/211/128"

Tried it with just the background color and with the transparencycolor... don't work

In one of the post it said to:
#!/bin/sh
#
# ~/.xinitrc
#
icewmbg &
exec icewm

( I don't know how to do this) put it in .xinitrc? where

2) Why can't i shutdown from icewm?
Tried to follow some tutorials and posts but no luck... most articles are for distros other than slackware but i tried variations.... In any case I do not have a "preoverride" directory or option???

3) Initially I installed icewm on fresh slackware12.2 install along with all the Xfiles but have never started another wm... to set icewm as the default instead of Xfce is this right?

4) I also intalled icewm slackbuild as root from /usr/local/src - directory is this a problem.... just read somewhere it was godd to install from here to keep things organized? Thanks

I am new to the Linux GUI stuff and I have a question about it.
I would like to change/modify the Interface of e.g. Ubuntu.
instead of the normal GNOME UI.
This should be something like a kiosk Terminal, where the (auto-login) User does not have any rights to modify anything, he can only use my application.
I have to say that this Terminal will be accessed through a Touchscreen, so the User does not have the option to use a keyboard.
Furthermore, I want to use my own bootscreen, so the user can't see the linux boot progress. Is that possible?

Does anybody have an idea how I could implement that?

I would welcome all solutions for this issue!

Thanks in advance,
