Hi all, i'm desperate,

I wanted to install Fedora 12, (now on my machine there is Fedora 11 64) i wanted to resize the system partition (1TB LVM in EXT4) leaving 100GB for the new system...

I started the system with Fedora 11 x86 Live, started the "Logical Volume Managment" from System->Administration and gone on vg0->Logical View->lv0 and i've done "edit properties" and resized the partition to 900GB, clicked on ok...

When i restarted the system, GRUB started, i've choose Fedora and nothing... Black screen with just the cursor, loading nothing and letting me just write...

(LVM didn't recognized my partition type before and after the resize, instead of sayng Filesystem EXT4 it said Filesystem "None"

I'm terrified also of mounting partition, there were all my important data

Please help me, Thank you

Hi,

I just purchased a new 22'' LCD monitor and found that one of the pixels was on "bright green". Now I looked at this pixel and rubbed the area where it was just to be sure it was indeed one of the pixels and it switched back to working properly....So should I leave it alone or should I take it back to the dealer and state that one of the pixels was malfunctioning but is working O.K. now?

I guess what I'm asking is, is this going to be an ongoing problem...Note I have a year warranty.

I program 2gb usd disk in linux for embedded applications. We use ext2 / ext3 types of file system on the various partitions. Recently we faced an issue where the disk got corrupted to such a state that , we could not even recover it after doing a disk programming in linux pc using a disk programmer. Disk programming essentially does a mke2fs on the partitons and hence we loose all data. and the blocks are expected to return back to sane state. But in this case the disk remained in the corrupt state rendering disk r/w operations to fail.

HOWEVER, the same disk when i tried to format in Windows, it recovered fully and it was again capable of performing r/w operations.
So my queries now are:
1) How is the disk formatting operation different in Linux compared to Windows.?
2) Is it possible to create ext2/ext3 file systems in Windows?

Thanks In advance

Hi,

I'd really like to start using Linux, but I don't know much about it. I tried installing Mandriva One 2010, but it apparently isn't compatible with my laptop. Does anybody know what would be a good distribution to use with an old Dell Latitude CPx? I'd like to get a free bootable CD one for starters, if possible. I mainly would like to use it for surfing the Web. Thank you much.
I'm assuming that theoretically these is no x86 computer that cannot run Linux, run?

This has occured across several distros, including Ubuntu, Fedora and now Debian.

I am using a normal ps2 keyboard. It even works while GRUB is up. It also works whenever I boot into Windows. But ocassionally, maybe 10% of all start up, whenever I finally hit the login screen, and start typing, nothing happens.

What could be the cause of the problem? And how could I fix it?

Note, as I said before, I've used several versions of Ubuntu, Fedora 11, and the lastest Debian (with unstable), all of them have had this problem.

I'm posting this now because, generally a restart 'fixes' it. Only this time, I've restarted eight times, and I'm slightly annoyed.
