Changing the theme - page layout?

Hi all
Just signed up after reading thread on the Debian forums. Seems nice bar the theme layout. I'm on a netbook and every time I view a new thread I have to scroll down to it as the whole page is taken up with the "Big *** analog clock" sorry I mean arrow pointing to editors choice etc. Am I not seeing the forest for the trees? like the off shrink, hide place at bottom of the page button. It really is annoying.
