I have Ubuntu 8.04, SUSE 10.3, and win XP on one computer. I want to play war craft online and I want to use what ever OS I happen to be using at the time is this possible?

You can run the game(windows-oriented) by installing wine

Thats not what I m asking I mean if I'm under windows playing and then goto in Linux can I pickup the game where I left off in windows.

I'm not sure how World of Warcraft stores things, but if your account data is stored on the WoW server rather than the local machine, I see no reason why you couldn't just pick it up from a different client.

Now, whether or not you can get WoW working in Linux is a completely different subject, but if your character's stats and such are kept remotely, your idea might work.

And even if it's not online, there's no reason why you can't symlink the dir with the savegames into your ~/.wine/c_drive/Program Files/<whatever>

Just to make some clarifications: In order to switch computers or operating systems you would have to reboot and hence log out of Wow (no instantaneous OS shifting, sorry). However, your character is stored solely on the Wow servers, therefore it does not matter what computer or OS you are using to play, your character is always fine. Your UI configuration and some video settings are stored locally, but they are easily cloned between installations (stored in the WTF folder).

I just recently quit wow, but played almost exclusively on linux (running wine in gentoo) for a little less than a year with no problems. It works well, and I actually got higher max frame rates with linux than windows (I saw less than great frame rates when there was a lot of action though).
