After a fair ol' attempt i've managed to get UT installed in Linux (which runs faster, at a higher resolution than it does it Windows - yay!). However, when trying to join an online game which requires downloading anything i get "Downloading XXX not allowed" errors.

i noted that the Cache directory was absent so i've created it with relevant permission but the error persists.

Any thoughts? Or am i stuck fragging bots?

What version of Unreal Tournament are we talking about here? Original UT? UT:GOTY? UT 2003? UT 2004? Have you installed the most recent updates for it?

Easy update scripts can be found in the "Native" section of Loki Installers for Linux Gamers.

Did you install the game as root? Have you considered installing it as a regular user into your /home/ directory? I usually do this for my games to avoid permission issues.

Aha! Solved it!

Turns out there's a setting in UnrealTournament.ini called 'AllowDownloads' which for some reason had been set to 'False'
