Does anyone monitoring this forum have any preferences in video editting software that they care to expound upon? I want to edit two types of files:
a. music videos, and
b. movie videos from my Canon digital (still camera) [not to be confused with a digital camcorder].

Packages that I am curious about are listed below. Please, any reviews, comments, comparisons, or recommendations?

[I believe kino is limited in the input forumat's it accepts. For example, it won't accept the .avi movie files from my Canon digital (still) camera].

I did a couple edits to my original post, adding a couple of more packages that I discovered (but did not install). However I don't plan to maintain this thread any more. The lack of response clearly indicates linuxforums.org is not the forum to discuss video editing software.

I did do some editing in Win XPO and would like to do the same in Fedora. I will check out those links you posted. I have a Canon S230 and do the video capture thing as well and then put the clips together. I would liek to be able to do transistions and titling. I am new to this area so I am not sure what to use. Thank you for posting the links.

Good luck with your editing. I'm most curious to read about any views you may develope on the individual packages you try.

I tried to use Kino for my Digital still camera (a Canon S700 which has a movie mode) but discovered Kino is limited in the input formats it will handle, and it does not handle the .avi movie format of digital still cameras.

I tried avidemux, and its a great package. Note avidemux does handle my Digital still camera's format, but avidemux doesn't have precanned transitional affects one can input.

So I plan to try out some other packages, but I would like to benefit from the experience of others, if possible.

It is only to arrange digital photos in an album but it works really well and sets them up like a webpage. I am doing the whole family album that way and am going to post on our own net apache server at some point. Wow! I love Linux.

Thanks. I've never felt the need to create a digital photo Album, but thanks for the URL. I may try it some time.

On the subject of video editors, I found a good multimedia forum on gentoo. I am a SuSE user, and I have never used gentoo, nor do I have any plans to ever use gentoo. However I have found there are several interesting historical threads on the gentoo multimedia forum that are generic across all linux variants:

Rather than spend too much time installing applications, only to find out they don't really do what I want, I decided to try out the applications which are already on a Live CD.

Some live CDs that I have been considering are:

Thank you for important information here and on other forums as well. I have been looking for a video editing software and I have installed Cinelerra. I would be interested in LiVES but I can't install it on SuSe 10.1.
