is it possible to make xine display pics

Hi

Im currently in the process of building a computer to just basically display movies one after the other, but i want to add a few images in between the movies where possible (by images i mean a bitmap or something like that). I am currently using xine on a gentoo install running a fluxbox window manager to play the movies and it is working very well but if i could get a few images to display for XX amount of time between the movies then it would be very useful

If anyone knows if this is possible then your help would be appreciated or could someone recommend a good program to perhaps make a short movie to display these images
