How to run Battlefield 2142
I got it to install and when I click on the shortcut on my desk top it has a message poping up saying disk is not in drive, and it is.
I tried starting it with wine and it gave me the same message.
Could I get some help please?

Did I mention that I'm a total newbie at Ubuntu 8.10 and I have no clue what half of that crud means >_>

Read carefully and you will understand. There's a tutorial showing how to install BF 2142 perfectly on your Linux.
Run the installation and the game using the terminal, with the command: wine file.exe
And you will be able to see errors that you can fix -- or not! That's why you have to read the page I sent to you.
